About me

Of course, you can find all kinds of information about me by Googling Jeroen Coumans. And most of it is probably true. Still, an "about" page is kind of mandatory on the Web, so let me tell you a bit about myself.

I'm a web designer and front-end developer from the Netherlands who loves to design and code for the Web. Specialized in designing web sites and applications according to web standards, I try to keep a clear focus on user-centered design, usability and accessibility. I'm also actively involved in the web community by reading blogs, archiving interesting links, reading books and attending conferences. I'm also a member of the Dutch Fronteers, a professional organisation of front-end developers.

I'm currently employed as Lead Designer at Hyves and not available for new projects.

Of course, as new media specialist it's hard to escape the current wave of social networking sites. If you're curious, have a look at any of the following.

And don't forget my Drupal account, my (rather empty) Virb account, my W3C Sites account, my Linux From Scratch account, my Amazon wishlist ... pff, aren't you getting tired of me already?

About this website

This website was built on Drupal as an experiment and to gain better insights in Drupal's CMS capabilities. The template is handcoded by me with the PHPTemplate engine and conforms to web standards. I've used an assortment of modules, theme functions, PHP block snippets, PHP page snippets, Views and jQuery plugins to stump it all together looking the way it is now.

Did you know...

  • As a student I once 'hacked' the faculty website with Ellen to prove a point about the vulnerability of our network society.
  • I was once an avid comic book reader and artist. I still get a lot of inspiration by looking back at old favorites such as Frank Miller, Erik Larsen, Neil Gaiman and Bill Sienkiewicz.
  • I am Linux From Scratch user 14. I wrote a total of 967 posts on the mailing lists, and was the FAQ and website maintainer.
  • After working for a few years at Solide, I decided to get my master's degree in Communication and Multimedia Design. Before that, I got a Bachelor of Art in Arts and Culture. Most of my knowledge is self-taught however.
